Sam Gates is a writer, cook, marketing guru and mum. She’s cooked fabulous food everywhere, from a squat in Hackney to the African bush, loving every minute, whether it's been feeding 60 hungry little cub scouts or teaching world weary teenagers how to bake.
Sam's first job was in the burgeoning satellite TV industry, where launching new channels and cabling London was all in a day’s work, before landing her dream job at the UK's first food channel. As the marketing director, she promoted Britain’s top chefs and the launch of the channel in Africa, winning industry awards along the way.
Working with extraordinary, inspiring chefs all day, she kept quiet about her own love of cooking, but raced home every night to cook her heart out. Consultancy work with other channels gave her the courage to set up her own company, and the BBC food website became her first client.
Sam now works as a food writer and marketing consultant, and in her spare time she runs a cooking initiative in schools and charities. She lives in Surrey with her husband, two young and very exacting official tasters, and a rescue dog who just doesn’t seem to have the same standards.
